What matters on the ground
Our three regions lie in two federal states: the Hanover region and the Weserbergland in Lower Saxony, Ostwestfalen-Lippe in North Rhine-Westphalia. However different the cities are — Hannover, Bielefeld, Paderborn, Hameln or Bückeburg — one thing holds everywhere: an inheritance falls to the probate court, that is, the local court (Amtsgericht) at the deceased person’s last habitual residence.
